NEWFEED at the Basque Circular Summit: Showcasing Innovation in Circular Economy and Sustainable Feed Solutions
We’re proud to share the participation of our partners from AZTI, who represented NEWFEED project at the Basque Circular Summit, on 2nd of April 2025, one of the leading events in Europe focusing on circular economy strategies and innovation.
During the presentation of David San Martin he had the opportunity to share insights from the NEWFEED project that underscore the transformative potential of using food by-products as secondary raw materials in the feed industry. This innovative approach not only contributes to reducing waste management costs, but also promotes greater resource efficiency and advances environmental sustainability—all central goals of the circular economy model.

A key point raised was the high nutritional value found in many food by-products, positioning them as a valuable and sustainable resource for animal feed production. By reintroducing these materials into the production cycle, the project exemplifies how we can extend product life cycles and significantly reduce the environmental footprint of agri-food systems.
Finally, the session addressed the key feasibility factors that influence the implementation of such circular solutions. These include environmental impact, market demand, economic viability, geographical context, technical feasibility, and the legal framework. Recognizing and integrating these dimensions is crucial to the success and scalability of any circular economy initiative.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue working with our partners across Europe to create sustainable feed solutions.
