Celebrating NewFeed’s Impact at Leading R&I Event
About the event
As a satellite event of the European Research and Innovation (R&I) Days 2025, the conference “R&I for a Competitive Green Transition” gathered in Brussels on June 23–24 to spotlight the vital role of research and innovation in advancing Europe’s green transition.
This prestigious event brought together decision-makers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and EU stakeholders to explore how R&I is not only accelerating environmental sustainability but also enhancing economic competitiveness and citizens’ quality of life across Europe.
The event opened on June 23 with a prominent policy dialogue, where leading figures discussed how strategic R&I investment can strengthen Europe’s resilience, autonomy, and leadership in global sustainability efforts. Later that day, the conference was officially launched with the opening of an exhibition, featuring 15 innovative projects.
A major highlight of the exhibition was the representation of key EU initiatives including PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area), the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking, and the Green Deal Support Office. These initiatives showcased impactful projects contributing to circularity, sustainable resource use, and climate resilience.
On the second day, the conference featured keynote discussions, expert panels, and solution-focused sessions that showcased the transformative power of Research & Innovation. Topics ranged from supporting green startups, to exploring the role of green and blue diplomacy in addressing global environmental challenges. A main topic was the vital role of R&I in securing Europe’s leadership in the green transition while advancing its economic resilience and strategic objectives.
NewFeed at the Forefront of Circular Bioeconomy Innovation
The NewFeed Project was prominently showcased as one of the standout success stories, drawing attention for its innovative approach to converting agri-food by-products—such as olive cake, grape stems, and orange peels—into high-quality animal feed. By effectively turning what would otherwise be waste into valuable resources, NewFeed exemplifies the principles of circular economy in the agricultural sector.
The Project’s presence at the event highlighted not only the technical achievements but also its broader potential to contribute to sustainable food systems. This recognition underscores NewFeed Project as a powerful example of the impactful outcomes made possible through the support of PRIMA Partnership.
Looking Ahead
Overall, the “R&I for a Competitive Green Transition” conference reaffirmed the critical role of research and innovation in shaping a greener, more resilient, and economically competitive Europe. Beyond celebrating achievements, it provided a space for dialogue, inspiration, and future collaboration across sectors and regions. Within this high-profile context, the presence of the NewFeed Project was particularly significant.
The NewFeed Project demonstrated how innovative, circular approaches to agri-food waste can deliver real-world impact. Its inclusion among the leading examples, underscored both the Project’s relevance and contribution to Europe’s green transition—offering a clear example of how Mediterranean cooperation and applied research can help meet EU Green Deal objectives.
